Often families or individuals have questions about their academic performance or emotional health (e.g., Does my child have ADHD?). Psychological assessment involves you formulating a question to be addressed through the use of direct methods of observation and measurement, including testing, as well as indirect methods of collecting data, such as a review of records, checklists, and questionnaires. With your assessment question in mind, I will propose the method of assessment and an estimate of the length of time required to complete the evaluation. Typically I will then write up a report summarizing the results of the Psychological Assessment. If there are other work products that you would like, we will discuss that and arrive at a mutually agreed-upon product(s).
Psychotherapy can involve an individual, a couple, a family or a group. Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the personalities of the psychologist and patient, and the particular problems you bring forward. I may use many different methods to deal with the problems that you hope to address. In order for the therapy to be most successful, you will have to work on things we talk about both during our sessions and at home.
I provide consultations to individuals, families, school systems, and other providers. Such consultations are targeted to answer diagnostic questions and to make treatment recommendations, as needed. I also teach in a variety of contexts, such as at the college level, and I provide supervision to clinicians in training.
